The Yamaha SR series is one of the Japanese automaker's most popular models. Because it is not a retro bike, the SR 150 does not receive the same attention as its larger siblings. It is only available in Taiwan, and not even in Japan. Twist.Co, a two-man custom shop in Taichung City, Taiwan created a custom Yamaha SR150 Scrambler.

POSTED 12/06/2022 By Wesley Reyneke Made in Taiwan and only sold locally, the Yamaha SR150 was a hit among commuters and delivery riders. But it was a bike bought for its affordability and practicality, not its looks. Resembling the legendary SR500 only in name, the stock SR150 looks just like you'd expect a delivery bike to; blocky and bland.

Red's cafe racer began its life as a Yamaha SR150, a scaled-down version of the SR400 for the Taiwanese market. Despite a similar engine configuration and naming convention, the SR150 bares little resemblance to its retro-styled cousin. And although its production ceased in 2008, the Yamaha still has a strong following in Taiwan.

An imported Yamaha SR400, for example, could cost 20 times as much as a used SR150 — sometimes we don't realize how lucky we are to have the two-wheeled options we have. Due to this price gap, the 150cc SR has become a favorite of many younger Taiwanese riders, but the small size can be challenging for some customizers.

POSTED 09/09/2022 By Wesley Reyneke Yamaha's beloved SR has come in an array of sizes over the years, all closely resembling each other. Of all of them, the SR150 is an outlier. The now-defunct single was manufactured in Taiwan exclusively for the Taiwanese market, with a few visual differences from its Japanese cousins.

The Yamaha SR150 is known in Taiwan as a "white plate" motorcycle, a bike free of the high taxes and twice yearly safety inspections (!!) required on larger motorcycles — restrictions that can make it tougher to run a workshop building hand-crafted custom motorcycles.

The SR150 is a popular model produced by Yamaha, known for its reliable performance and easy handling. TwentyTwo Custom, a Taiwan-based motorcycle customizer, has taken this already impressive machine and transformed it into a cafe racer, a type of motorcycle that originated in the 1950s and 60s characterized by their stripped-down, sporty look.
